Public ArtWalk Dallas!

In May 2010, Business Council for the Arts announced Public ArtWalk Dallas!

Designed by the Leadership Arts Institute class of 2009-2010, a BCA program, Public ArtWalk Dallas! includes 30 pieces of significant art and architecture along a 3.3-mile route. This newly created walking route promotes a healthy lifestyle through increased awareness and an appreciation of public art in downtown Dallas.

Although walkers can begin their journey with any of the featured art works, the suggested starting point for the walk is at the Nasher Sculpture Center. Walkers can continue on from there taking in interesting pieces such as The Merc by Walter W. Ahlschlager and Donald Nelson, Floating Sculpture by Marta Pan, Genesis, the Gift of Life by Miguel Covarrubias and the 1978 bronze sculpture, de Musica, by Eduardo Chillida.

“Public art is an important component of downtown’s walkability,” notes Maria Munoz-Blanco, director of the Dallas Office of Cultural Affairs. “We invite Dallas families to embark on the ArtWalk on a weekend afternoon and discover the variety and diversity of public art in downtown Dallas.”

The ArtWalk guide is available for residents and visitors free at the Dallas Convention and Visitors Bureau.

“The ArtWalk offers residents and visitors a new, heart-healthy walking opportunity to experience and appreciate the city’s rich cultural offerings,” said Phillip Jones, president/CEO of the Dallas Convention and Visitors Bureau. “We’re very fortunate to have an incredible selection of performing, visual and culinary arts in Dallas to promote to visitors and are happy to be part of this worthwhile initiative.”
